In May of 1978 the permission came to create the first squadron of Clarification and Anti Submarine attack. Activated at the 17th of January 1979 as HA-1 “LINCE” Lynx the First squadron of Clarification and Anti Submarine attack was a fact.

At this time the Squadron counted 9 SAH-11 Lynx helicopters. The 9 SAH-11 Lynx Helicopters were operational till 1995. The Navy of Brazil was one of the first operators of the Lynx Helicopter and In 1977 the Brazilian Navy ordered the 9Lynx helicopter of the Type HAS.Mk21 receiving the name in The Brazilian Navy as the SAH-11.


The Brazilian Navy signed a contract with Westland for modernization of 5 SAH-11 and a new order of 9 HAS.Mk8 Super Lynx Helicopters which received the name AH-11A in the Brazilian Navy. The deliveries and the modernification of the Helicopters started in 1996.

The main tasks of the HA-1 squadron are Clarification, Attack on surface targets, the accompaniment of targets, Attacks on Boat and Submarines and Over the Horizon Targeting (OTHT).

Besides the main attack missions with missiles, Torpedo’s and bombs that can be equipped on the AH-11 Super Lynx, The HA-1 squadron can also be used for secondary Tasks like SAR “Search and Rescue”, Troop transport and photo Recconesance missions. Also the Squadron can be assigned for Task of Evacuation and also sweep and hunting down mines.

The HA-1 Squadrons has The Brazilian Naval Base of Sao Pedro D’Aldeia as its home base.
